LET'S TALK BUSINESS is designed for senior high school students, in which they learn about the power of professional communication skills at school and in the job market. As part of their academic curriculum, young people learn about the structure of the English language and about the basics of “Standard English.” They may not be encouraged to apply this knowledge to their spoken and written communication, however, with the goal of being prepared for future educational and employment-related opportunities.

This workshop is designed to provide that encouragement, to explain “what’s in it for me,” and to expand students’ knowledge about how communication styles are perceived in professional environments. To accomplish this, the workshop combines direct instruction, discussion, group activity, and individual participation. Students learn the difference between informal and formal communication styles – and that becoming proficient in the latter is not “selling out.” This event might be best described as a "communication boot camp."
